Off The Leash Off My Chest

First off my day job is quite stressful in this economy.  I work in a auto parts repair type business.  Most people are pretty cool and understanding of how the process works, but some people are not...Here is a paraphrasing of an actual call I have received recently:

Customer: I am wondering how much it would be to fix my alternator.

Me: It depends on what kind of car it is ma'am and the extent of the work needed on your alternator

Customer:  They are all the same right does it really matter what kind of car it is I just want a repair

Me: Actually there are literally thousands of different kinds but I can look it up and give you an idea

Customer: Its a Honda

Me: What kind of Honda is it?

Customer: What do you mean?

Me: Is it an Accord, Civic Prelude

Customer: 2002

Me: (slaps head) is it a Civic, Accord, Prelude?

Customer: Camry

Me: It's a 2002 Toyota Camry?

Customer: Yea that is it, how much to just repair mine?

Me: Well until I see yours I can't be sure if it is repairable or how much it would be just to repair, but looking in the computer the worst case scenario which is a full rebuild is 110 dollars.

Customer: I don't want a price on rebuilt, I just want to know what it would be to fix mine.

Me: Well, like I said if you bring it in to the store we can check it out see what is wrong with it and give you an estimate, that doesn't cost anything at all.

Customer: Oh Ok well how much is it brand new?

Me:  A rebuilt one is 110, a brand new replacement is 145.

Customer: Why so much Autozone is 179?

Me: Oh I see, well like I said its 110 rebuilt and 145 new or we can look at yours and give you an estimate...

Customer: Well it's my boyfriend's car I will see what he wants to do we will probably be in because you are cheaper I think.

Me: (slaps head again) Oh ok well thanks for calling have a great (click)....day

Ok so this is really a slight exaggeration and excerpts taken from like 3 calls this week but I have actually really had scenarios like this in my day to day. It could be worse I could be unemployed and without insurance.  Support your local small businesses and help save the economy = D

Well I realize that a part of me has just felt empty over the last couple months.  I know with all the stress of the economy and such, not to mention the stress of dating someone (or at least the typical amount of stress caused by the girls that I seem to involve myself with) it was hard to identify what was slowly pulling my spirits down like quicksand.  It has gotten worse as of late as I have become a hermit, avoiding phone calls staying in my room listening to itunes, and watching tv.  It wasn't until I was in the middle of a twitter message that it hit me.....

I have been in a creative roadblock, with the exception of this blog and about 300 twitter messages I haven't wrote anything in months.  There is so much stuff in my head that has been jammed in the back that it is starting to weigh heavy on me.  I need to do some music outside of my karaoke job.  I need to start and finish my book or series of books depending on how it pans out.  I need to become more diverse than a 140 character message bomb.

So here I am off to start my writing.  My book if you want to know is a biography of a vampire who has been alive since the dawn of creation.  The story follows the character through his own unique "first person" perspective of historical and biblical events.  Fall of Rome, The Black Plague, Salem Witch Hunts, World Wars, the flood, etc.  There is a lot I would like to do with this character henceforth why I say it might be more than just one book.

So I leave this blog clear minded and refreshed, off to start my book.  I leave you with my favorite line I have ever written in a song or poem

"I tried to hide my emotions, play it off as just lust, but deep inside you are the only one that I can trust

Subconsciously this tears me up inside and it makes me just want to scream

I wish I could spend my life sleeping because you are the girl of my dreams"

-Originally taken from my remix to Alicia Key's fallen but I think I am going to remake it into a post break up mix

adventures with Lauryna

Saturday I made a journey with my best friend Lauryna to Davis which was about 108 miles away from our starting locale according to the almighty mapquest.  This journey had sweat, almost tears, but no blood.

First off delays.  I didn't realize I had so many comics that it took forever to load them in Lauryna's Montero.  Secondly my dad called and asked me to feed the cows at my grandfather's house.  After all of that 30 seconds of labor I worked up a hunger which lead to our third delay which was Jack in the Box.
le
Ok after filling my belly we were off to Davis, or so we thought.  We followed mapquest's directions to a tee but since my printer was broke I wrote them down by hand without the mileage not that I really pay attention to the mileage to the tenth of a mile which clearly in this case was a mistake.

Directions said to take Richards Blvd and it turned into E street.  Turn onto 5th Street from there.  The issue here is there is a Richard Blvd about 5 to 10 minutes earlier than the one I needed, to further the confusion it also essentially was an E street connected to numbered streets.  After being lost for an hour trying to get to 5th street via different twists and turns on various one way streets, and yelling exchanged between Lauryna and I we realized oh crap wrong town.  Got back on I 5 called the comic guy and he said yea there was two Richards Blvd exits and we took the wrong one.  We arrived sold the comics and it was a good day.

Moral of the story rely on the exact mileage next time

iJustine

So I am doing the twitter thing these days.  It is very entertaining.  Veronica Belmont (Qore and Teckzilla) posts the funniest stuff throughout the day.  (Like Star Wars Retold by someone who has never seen it).  I also follow Levar Burton of Star Trek and Reading Rainbow fame, he is comedy gold.  Now the name sake of this post is something I can only describe as an internet phenom.  iJustine (like iPod, or iTunes)  says she "is the internet, and the official unoffical spokesperson for apple)  She definately is the first half of that statement and possibily the second as well.  I had seen her being followed on twitter and decided to follow her as well.  I saw her live show on friday when she twittered that she was doing one and I was suprised.

I admit I was a little skeptikal here you have a girl with cover model good looks, who has more views for her ordering a cheeseburger than most people can ever get for doing anything else on youtube.  So I watched a few vids while I was waiting for her live show, they were very funny, I laughed quite a few times at her turkey adventure for Thanksgiving. Her live show while not as humorous did definately highlight what kind of person she was.   She has a lot of fun being iJustine, and seemed to take care of her fanbase.  At one point she opened up to taking phone calls from people and her iPhone was so overwhelmed by the calls and voicemails that it shut off and had to be rebooted.   Instead of getting annoyed or calling it off she took a second and got it back going.  While she took these calls she answered every single one with a genuine enthusiasm that I would have never expected.  She seemed to go out of her way to keep some of the people talking and was very warm hearted.

So my hat off to you iJustine who actually has a personality that matches her outward appearance.  The world would be a better place with more people like that. = D  Her videos are very funny look her up on youtube.

karaoke madness

Well I have to say that last night's karaoke show has to be the craziest show that I have ever hosted or seen.  First we had this famous comedian who I don't know his last name Benny something pull up in a limo and partying there.  If I worked in a large club this might not seem so unusual, but I work a small bar in the middle of nowhere.  Nonetheless the comedian was a very funny and friendly guy.  It was also blast from the past night as it seems that everyone who has come to a show I have done in the last 5 years that I haven't seen in a long time decided to show up and sing which was awesome.  Lots of people I didn't realize that I missed.  To top off the night on a sad note though a guy got naked while singing karaoke and that just didn't sit well with me.  I don't like naked guys.......

Well I might post more later work calls, Have a blessed afternoon
